Cross references are provided as a selection aid. Confirm suitability for your specific application before production use.
Acrylic foam tape does not dry or cure. It builds strength as the adhesive flows into the microscopic texture of the surface, so the bond is decided by prep and pressure.
Clean. Clean with a 50:50 isopropyl alcohol and water wipe for fingerprints and light oil. Use a degreaser first for heavy oil, grease, or mold release; then use the IPA wipe. Wipe in one direction with lint-free tissue. Mill-finish aluminum and stainless benefit from light abrasion followed by a solvent wipe.
Press. Apply at least 15 psi across the full bond area.
Design for shear or tension. Wider tape increases load capacity; thickness is for conforming to surface variation. Avoid peel and cleavage loads where possible; design for shear or tension.
Complete the form to request a sample. Please include the SKU of the product you need.
Choose a starting point based on your surface, then match tape thickness to the movement in your parts.
For common, clean, high-surface-energy materials and general bonding needs.
For applications where a clear bond line is preferred on compatible surfaces.
For powder-coated surfaces and low-surface-energy materials; verify compatibility first.
Exceptions: For unusual coatings, contaminated surfaces, or critical applications, test adhesion on a clean sample before production.
Use the guidance below to compare part movement with a suitable tape thickness and SKU.
| Your Parts | Thickness | Movement It Takes | Tape Providers Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thin gauge or flexible parts - trim, emblems, tight-clearance assemblies | 10–25 mil | Up to ~0.075 in | DCFAUHB10C, DCFAUHB16E/W, DCFAUHB20C, DCFAUHB25E/W |
| Semi-rigid parts with good surface flatness | 31–40 mil | Up to ~0.120 in | DCFAUHB31E, DCFAUHB40C |
| Rigid panel to rigid frame - general structural panel bonding | 43 mil | Up to ~0.130 in | DCFAUHB45E, DCFAUHB45W |
| Rigid parts with flatness variation or longer spans | 59 mil | Up to ~0.180 in | DCFAUHB60C, DCFAUHB60E |
| Rigid assemblies with greater surface variation | 79 mil | Up to ~0.240 in | DCFAUHB80C, DCFAUHB80E, DCFAUHB80W |
Surface preparation, application pressure, temperature, and dwell time affect bond performance. Validate the selection under actual operating conditions.
