WOD SPT15A and SPT20A Polyethylene Film Tapes are ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene films with an aggressive acrylic adhesive. Available in 15 mil and 20 mil thicknesses, these tapes offer exceptional chemical and abrasion resistance, along with an extremely low coefficient of friction, making them versatile engineering materials for severe service applications. Materials slide freely over the tape surface with no slip/stick tendency, while the high impact strength and shock-absorbing properties enhance durability.

Designed to protect surfaces from abrasion, WOD SPT15A (15 mil) and WOD SPT20A (20 mil) create a “slip plane” effect, allowing contact without wear. The 20 mil version provides increased durability and extended wear life for applications requiring greater resistance to impact and friction. Both variations feature outstanding chemical resistance and a unique combination of properties, making them ideal for tough impact, wear, or sliding applications.

Common Applications

Automotive noise reduction – Creates a “slip plane” between incompatible surfaces to reduce squeaks and rattles.
Lubrication-free applications – Ideal when lubrication is not possible due to contamination concerns.
Surface protection and lining – Used for conveyor guide rails, chutes, spray booth liners, tank and bin liners, drawer and cabinet slides, and aluminum sheet protection in stretch forming presses.
Noise reduction and impact absorption – Commonly used in roller wrapping, wire harnessing, insulating, shielding, composite bonding, and flash breaking.
Abrasion resistance – Outwears PTFE and other materials in sliding applications, providing a longer lifespan with the 20 mil version in high-wear environments.
Sound damping – Reduces noise levels in machinery and equipment with high energy absorption capacity.

The Science Behind UHMW Film Tape

The effectiveness of WOD SPT15A and SPT20A Film Tape lies in their Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) backing. UHMW-PE is a thermoplastic with a unique combination of exceptional hardness, low surface energy, and superior abrasion resistance. Its ultra-high molecular weight significantly reduces friction, making it an excellent anti-stick and easy-release solution. Compared to PTFE, UHMW-PE offers superior durability, with the 20 mil version further increasing wear resistance for extended use.

Additional Information

SPT20A (20 mil) offers increased thickness and durability, making it more resistant to wear in heavy-duty applications.
